When using mixtures for facing masonry, the same consistence must be used for pointing (to avoid the occurrence of colour shades!). The bricks in the masonry must be bonded, i.e. the vertical joints of every subsequent course must be shifted by 1/4 of the brick length, however 4.5 cm as a minimum.
The joint thickness is selected so that the joint and brick dimensions meet the standard. In general, vertical and horizontal joints 1 cm thick are used. The masonry must be constructed using mortar of 3.5-7 MPa pressure strength. Frost-resistant means are not allowed. When constructing face masonry with mortars, walls are built and pointed simultaneously. Mortar is applied in layers thicker than usual in building. When laying bricks, remove the mortar forced out of joints with trowel.
After mortar setting, finish the joints using a wooden peg, a piece of hose, a pointing trowel, etc. The joint colour depends on the mortar consistence and the joint finishing method. Joints should be finished on consistently set mortar.
